Benefits

A turbo session involves riding your own bike whilst attached to a stationary turbo trainer, which has a number of benefits:
  • Constant conditions (not wet and cold)
  • Controllable levels of effort - great for interval trianing
  • Traffic-free training- no cars to knock you off
  • Focus on physical conditioning, rather than bike-handling skills
  • Ability to focus on pedalling technique and cadence
  • Different abilities can train together

Equipment

To participate in these session you will need the following:
  • Bike - make sure it is clean for use in the sports hall
  • All riders must bring a mat (Yoga Type) to protect the floor
  • Turbo Trainer
  • Front wheel block / riser
  • Sweat cover - if you don't have one of these bring a spare towel to drape over your handlebars and headset - sweat does nasty things to a bike
  • Bike shoes
  • Towel for wiping away the sweat from yourself and the floor after the session - it will get hot - you will sweat and you will be expected to leave the area where you train in a clean condition at the end of each session.
Although not compulsory you will benefit more from these sessions if you have:
  • a heart rate monitor; and
  • a cadence sensor fitted to your bike
